Do you own your Suno song, and can you sell it?
Short answer: you may own the parts you personally created — original lyrics, melody, or other musical elements. AI prompting alone doesn’t count as human authorship. If your human contribution is substantial and your song is used in at least 5,000 qualifying Instagram Reels, you may be able to sell your transferable U.S. music publishing rights to Songbuyer.ai.
What you may own
Every song has two separate parts: the composition (the lyrics and music — also called publishing) and the master recording (the actual audio file). When you make a song with Suno or another AI music tool, what you can own as a writer comes from your own human-created contributions, such as lyrics you wrote or a melody you composed.
Not every AI-generated element of a song may be protected by copyright, and human contributions don’t make AI-generated portions protected. A platform’s commercial-use terms are also not the same thing as owning a copyright.
What doesn’t count
- Typing a prompt alone — AI prompting isn’t authorship.
- Pure AI songs with no original human-written music or lyrics.
- Deepfakes, sound-alikes, cover songs, third-party samples, or leased beats.
Can you sell it?
Songbuyer.ai seeks ownership of transferable U.S. composition (music publishing) interests only, for a one-time payment. You keep your master recording and your rights outside the United States. To qualify:
- You personally wrote original lyrics, melody, or other musical elements.
- Your personal contribution represents at least 50% of the composition’s creative work. This is our acquisition policy, not a legal test of copyright protection.
- Instrumental songs are accepted. Songs with lyrics must have English lyrics.
- No additional human co-writers.
- You own the U.S. composition rights you offer and disclose any agreements, licenses, or restrictions affecting them.
- Your song must be used in at least 5,000 qualifying Instagram Reels. We count Reels using your song—not views, likes, followers, or streams.
Uploaded your Suno song directly to Instagram? Original Audio and User Sounds are welcome. Distributors, PRO affiliations and platform licenses are reviewed, not automatically rejected, and an unregistered song isn’t rejected for that reason alone.
What happens when you submit
We verify the Reels using your song and review what you created. Final terms depend on authorship and ownership verification and a signed purchase agreement. Submitting doesn’t create an agreement or transfer any rights.
